Friends of TNR charity is responsible for servicing the Yarmouth, NS and surrounding communities in the spaying/neutering of stray cats. Volunteers capture and care for stray cats, providing food, shelter and vaccinations, until they are spayed/neutered. They look for suitable homes for these cats, and if none found, they release the cat after it has been altered. Any tame cats that can be placed in a home are adopted out.. Feral cats are released once they have been leukemia tested, spayed/neutered and are healthy. The work of the charity is performed solely by volunteers, who dedicate many hours to take calls from the public advising of cats, to locate and trap the cats, and attend to their medical needs as stated above. Volunteers also work on educating the public on the importance of spaying and neutering to control population sizes.
