Okanagan Collie Rescue Society continues to help many strayed/abandoned/unwanted collie dogs and shetland sheep dogs in the year 2016. These dogs were, accetped in and placed in the society's foster care program where they are fostered by volunteer in the volunteers' homes. During the fostering period, their temperament are assessed, and they are given the necessary veterinary and dental care, sterilization, grooming and training. Fostering period varies with each rescued dog, and generally varies between a few weeks to a few months, depending on the time to rehabilitate them. Some senior dogs remain in the Society's permanent foster care program for the rest of their lives as they become unadoptable due to age and declining health. The continuing success of the Society's rescue and rehabilitation program depended entirely on the tireless effort of dedicated volunteers who opened their heart and homes to fostering the rescued dogs, transported and trained them, as well as screening and interviewing potential adopters to ensure that the rescued dogs will never face abandonment again.
