Sunnybrook Research Academy (SRA) is a specialized research organization 100% owned by Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. The vision of SRA is to pursue research in order to understand and prevent disease and to develop treatments that enhance and extend life. SRA has research projects funded mainly by the federal and provincial governments. SRA was incorporated without share capital under the Canada Corporations Act on September 3, 2010. SRA began operations in June 2011 to enter into research contracts with the Government of Canada that otherwise SHSC would not be eligible to accept.
