NCCS has 2 post docs joing our team to develop a theodolite/hydrophone project to track both the vocal and visual reaction of whales to marine vessel traffic and ambient noise in Squally Channel, a proposed LNG tancer route. This will include building algorithms to detect whales use of new base camp in Squally, development of new equipment to document whale movements from shore. In 2017 NCCS will increase marine survey routes from Prince Rupert to Bella Bella, assisting coastal First Nation communities to increase their capacity to document whale habitat use within their territory.
